Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R

Very good value, if you can work with the limitations. This lens represents a remarkable value. It's sharper than I expected, especially when closed down one or two stops. My copy gets sharper zooming past about 70mm, and seems to stay fairly sharp all the way to 150. I wouldn't expect it to hold up under any kind of rough treatment, or bad weather. It's also very light weight. If you can work with the limitations (in particular the small max aperture) it's well worth having. I have no doubt that the Olympus Pro zoom is better, but I'm not sure yet how invested I want to be in this system, so for me this is a good compromise. The photos shown are taken from the extreme corner of the frame, from left to right they are at 40mm f5, 40mm f7.1, 96mm f4.9, and 96mm f6.3; all were taken with a tripod mounted camera. No post processing done, other than Lightroom's conversion to DNG and then to JPG. I am no expert at lens testing! These show that my copy has pretty noticeable loss of sharpness in corners even stopped down at 40mm, but things get better at longer focal lengths. Kit lens does the basics great. This 40-150mm kit lens does the basics well: good image quality, lite weight and compact. I don't think it is sealed, and it is Does focus as fast as the pro line lens. But, I did not purchase lens for pro feathers. I just wanted a native micro 4/3ths lens with good power for none fast action shooting. With my other lens I have coverage from 28 to 300mm worth of power without having to carry around a lot of Equipment.

Cheap kit lens with decent image quality. I bought this lens as factory refurbished ex-display. Overall it looks good and was packaged nicely in a plastic bag and bubble wrap tucked inside a factory -like box bearing Olympus logo. Sold by an authorised seller as well. Unfortunately, the lens itself did not look pristine. While reasonably tight and clean outside it had some smear marks on it's front element that looked as if fingerprints were rubbed of in a hurry. Lenspen took good care of that, but on closer examination in bright daylight I discovered a small lint particle stuck to inside of front element and slight fogging ( contamination?) closer to outer edge of one of the inside elements. no way to get there without lens disassembly, and I am not fancy doing it myself. One cannot be too picky when it goes about a used lens though, and from my personal experience any noticeable impact on lens performance is very unlikely to happen with these minor imperfections. And this is exactly what I saw in my field test. I purchased the lens to be used with Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1. The camera recognised the lens and worked with it just fine. Images taken through the lens were good, with natural colours, decent contrast and acceptable overall sharpness that could be improved a lot in some image processing software, for example Adobe Lightroom. Image quality overall is not stellar, but what can be expected with plastic body kit tele-zoom. Definitely better in middle third of focal range ( i.e 80-120mm) than closer to extremes.Focusing can be slow and hesitant at long end of the zoom - but that has to do with the camera as well. All in all, lens lives to the tests and reviews that can be found all over the net. It is also feather light so it won't make the whole set much heavier while widening the camera's capacity a lot.
