Fantastic image quality! Great for sports and portraits.5.0/5

Fantastic image quality! Great for sports and portraits. The Sigma 120-300 2.8 lens has incredible image quality! It is heavy but still hand holdable. I really like that it works perfectly on the Nikon Z series with the adapter.

    A Nice Poor Man's Cinema Lens5.0/5

A Nice Poor Man's Cinema Lens Beautiful images on a tripod! This may be considered heavy for photographers, but if used with Canon Cinema Cameras on a sturdy tripod, there none to compare with at this price. Build quality is quite sturdy, what you might expect from a professional lens. Optics are top notch. Focus is not quiet when shooting video, but considering the mass that needs to move it's completely acceptable. Auto Focus is quick and accurate and can track subjects adequately. Not tested with Formula 1, but you get the picture. Manual focus is easy enough with the large ring and long-ish throw. Hood goes on easily and caps stay in place. This is no cinema lens, but you would easily expect to pay 10x for something comparable. I found it 100% compatible with my Canon C100 after a firmware update. The only downside? It really needs a top handle and focus gears. My test videos with the Canon C100 can be found on vimeo.Read full review

I own 3 other primes, but the reviews about the zooms had me cautious. I have shot the Can on 24-70 (both versions) as well as the 24-105 f/4. The Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Art OS lens is remarkable. On my 5Ds it had incredibly accurate focus points, and I love how the contrast and color renditions give it a very different feel than the army of Canon lenses. (More neutral color, slightly more contrasts)\nCons: it is heavy. Like, 85mm f/1.2 heavy. I definitely feel the difference in my shoulders and back after a day of shooting. The zoom ring is firm, which in the long term for the lens is probably better, but it takes some getting used to. The focus ring is thin, and it’s still taking me some hunting to find it while shooting.\nI’ve managed camera stores, run rental departments, and shot nearly every lens and body in the Canon lineup. This is a remarkbable lens that exceeds expectation, and is at least an equal to any other lens in this zoom range. I don’t get the negativity exhibited in so many of the reviews I had read.\n(Included the only image I have really shot that wasn’t for a client so far...) I was very impressed with the quality of it.. basically brand new. I believe it was a factory refurbished model, but damn it's clean. Ver y nice build quality, pretty heavy, and produces a clean image.\nI'd have to say it's to be expected for this price range of lens. It's much better than the Rokinon lenses I have. Chromatic abortions around the highlights are looking way cleaner, I love having some zoom flexibility, and the constant aperture is perfect for my needs.\nI shoot a lot of video and usually resort to manual focus, but sometimes I take photos and need that autofocus to make the job easier (and to compete in the market). I am working with a Lumix gh5 with a metabones speedbooster, so the autofocus is not super quick or deadly accurate but it beats no auto focus at all. I'm confident I will be able to capture almost anything except sports or anything with quick movement.\nPop this baby on a native EF body and it will most likely boost it's AF performance.\nOther than that, I'm happy with my purchase. OIS is hella smooth, the mount fit is snug, and the image is clean. Definitely a game changer.\nRead full review...","reviewer":"Great Quality, Perfect Condition","rating":5},{"review":"Fast and Clear If you want to compare this lens with one that is twice the price, go ahead. For the rest of us that needs to do the job and able to produce a quality product, this lens is for you. Very sharp and qui ck focus. Problem that is not really a problem is it's weight. Bought for child sports and wildlife photography, so far only used for swim meets and the picture quality is better overall compared to the Sigma 18-250 we have been using (which itself is really good). Solidly built, smooth adjusting, near silent and fast auto focusing. The image stabilization works like a charm, though it can slow down action shooting ever so slightly. It is hefty, but did find that holding under the tripod adapter really stabilizes it. Buying after a fair amount of research, it has more than met expectations. My camera is a Canon XTi and the lens is a standard Canon 75-300mm F5.6. I can take decent pictures but don't know anything about f stops, shutter speeds and lighting calculations. I just move the little dial to \"sports\" when I'm taking pictures of something moving and move it to \"flower\" when I'm taking pictures of something up close....etc.\n\nWell, my girls have been in gymnastics for a couple of years and just started entering meets. Due to the fact that you can't use a flash, 90% of my pictures were blurry (even when they were standing still) So, I did some online investigations and found that I need a lens with a lower f-stop. I have no idea how to calculate what I need but there were suggestions that it would need to be in the f2 to f3 range. I found this lens at a really great price (compared to all others in the 200mm+ range) and with great reviews.\n\nI haven't taken it to a meet yet but I took it to practice last week under similar circumstances. The lens allowed me to capture my daughter on the trampoline in mid-air like she was frozen with nearly zero blur and good lighting. I've included what my pictures looked like with my old 300mm lens vs what they look like with this 200mm Sigma.\n\nI was utterly shocked when I received it as I was expecting something smaller than my 300mm. This thing looks like it was engineered vs the standard Canon lens that looks like it was just put together. Its a beast. Look, I expect an f/2.8 300mm to be large ... so I ignored these recurring comments. What made me finally pull-the-trigger on this lens was two factors: (i) Value amd (ii) Versatility\n\nI'd been looking awhile for a decent f/2.8 300mm with VR/OS. The used lenses I found were either too pricey or too beat up. Seems like they all claimed \"minor dust which shouldn't affect the image\". But If I'm shelling out north of $2k, I don't want *any* dust -- right ?\n\nThis lens, to me, was a great alternative. Sample images I'd seen online looked very comparable to 300mm primes, but it also had the versatility of variable zoom from 120-300mm. I enjoy shooting concerts, so I figured this zoom range would offer me more versatility when I can't shoot right in front of the stage.\n\nAfter getting the lens, I too was surprised by it's size/weight. This is not a lens you'll handhold for long. You'll definitely want at least a monopod if you're shooting with it for any time. But once you get past the beastliness of this Humvee, there's a lot to love about it. My very first snap was a spur-of-the-moment headshot outdoors. The Bokeh was silky smooth and the sharpness was pleasing. I also own several other Nikon lenses (85 f/1.4, 105 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8. 70-200 f/2.8, etc) and I can say this first headshot snap was similar in quality to my best other lenses.\n\nSince then, I've had a chance to do a little shooting with it, and have been pleasantly surprised by it's performance. It takes a little getting used to it's size/weight, but the results do not disappoint. I've mounted this on multiple bodies including a Nikon D800, D3s, and D610. The focus is consistently smooth and accurate.\n\nOn a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, I'd rate my satisfaction with this lens a solid 9. It's well built, smooth and fast focusing, and it's versatility in zoom range makes up for it's imposing weight/size. I'm pleased with my purchase and can't foresee ever wanting to give this lens up.Read full review","reviewer":"Versatile Conert Lens But Not For The Frail","rating":5},{"review":"Great lens for photographing sports on a budget I had done a lot of YouTube research on this lens before I decided to jump in and get it. It seemed to be a good fit for the high school sports that I take pictures of. I have only had a chance to use it at a little league baseball game so far. The real test will be next month when Friday night football starts up. I will update this review then. It took a bit to get used to the weight of the lens, but by the end of the game, I was fine with it. This is definitely not a lens to handhold for any length of time. Since I'm using it for sports, a monopod is needed. I am using it with a Nikon D600. Both of those products are about the same age; 10 years or so and they work well together.
