Zeiss Loxia Distagon T 21mm f/2.8

Outstanding Wide Angle for Sony A7 Series The Zeiss 21mm Loxia has top notch image, build and handling qualities in a small form factor. Focus is very smooth and activates the magnification in the EVF automatically making manual focus accurate and quick. Images are sharp in the center wide open and the edge sharpness is excellent stopped down. The aperture ring can be a little hard to find at times because the ring is thin and the ribbing doesn't stand out from the barrel so it is hard to distinguish by feel alone sometimes. Also, I find that I need to grip the entire barrel firmly when dismounting the lens in order to gain enough purchase on the surface that the rings don't turn in the process. Both issues I can live with for a lens this outstanding in small size and optical performance.

Great lens, but not enough info This lens is sharp, light, and minimizes the usual distortion of very wide angle lenses. What should be said about it in the description and isn't is that the exposure must be set by the aperture ring on the lens. I expected manual focus and didn't think it would be a problem. But this lens must be set either to manual or aperture priority. I didn't know that and I even tried to get an answer over the phone from the seller. I got nowhere. It's not a deal breaker if you know what you're doing, but if you want to use the other shooting modes on your Sony camera, you should look at the 25 mm. Batis.

No hesitation, this is a great lens. This is of course a manually focussed lens which I prefer. The focusing aids on advanced digital cameras make this very easy and accurate. This lens is superbly corrected and sharp right out to the corners of the frame. It is made in Japan to a Zeiss design and tested with manufacturing instruments made by Zeiss. I see no diminution in quality from the many Zeiss lenses I own made in Germany. This is a beautiful piece of modern glass.
