Sharp, heavy and front focus issue This lens is truly state of the art zoom image quality. It will match prime lens sharpness. Like all zooms it has slight weakness on one extreme or the other, for this lens it will front focus when used at 90mm f8 when using AF. The workaround is to switch to manual focus with magnification. The only other issue is weight, it's a very dense lens that can make it less than ideal when traveling or in the field. I would not hesitate to buy this lens again, it is only one of two zooms that can deliver superb quality images that match single focal length lenses.

Amazing image quality Long time Leica M shooter, trying a zoom for the first time in 40 years. Amazing image quality replacing my 24, 28, 35, 50 and 90 M lenses on the SL. I get that it is heavy, but IS, environmental seals, autofocus and flexibility make this an excellent replacement to the five primes. I added a 15mm and am ready!

SL 24-90 versatility and durability I have been using M lenses with my SL but wanted to try the zooms for their versatility and ruggedness. I also recently purchased the 50SL. The 24-90 was the only one I recently brought to China. The lens/camera is large and heavy (in the same league as a DSLR and 24-70 zoom; well, maybe a bit heavier!), but the handling and craftsmanship are far superior. The IQ is excellent, as most report, maybe a bit softer at 90; much better than my abilities!
