The best 35mm 1.4 lens out there for Canon body Forget Leica R body as they have been discontinued. I have been using Leica Lens on EOS body since 5 years ago and love it. This lens not only provide excellent contrast and sharp image at wide open, it is even sharper when stop down to F2-F4.0. Great for creativity/landscape/portrait and close-up shots. Fits great with the Canon full frame sensor body like the 5D/5Dmk2. Modification on the Canon body required for the full frame and 1.3X crop sensors. As for 1.6X crop sensor, this is equivalent to 56mm F2 (DOF) lens on full frame sensor. Not bad for someone who needs to shoot in low light.
