Great value for the cash. This lens is exactly what it promises. An inexpensive zoom in a beer can design. Simply turn the zoom ring and the lens motor turns the zoom in and out for you automatically. This lens is already inherently slow (Aperture wise) so I wouldn't expect anyone to be using it for action photography anyway. I mention this because the motorized zoom mechanics is much slower than I would use for action photography or photographing a child in motion. To focus this lens, you must turn the front of the lens entirely (just ahead of the zoom ring) which is again a bit frustrating if you're trying to work fast, but you shouldn't be with this lens. I'm used to my Nikon D300s with high end lenses so I am only comparing with those lens designs. But for a good sturdy lens for a great price (much less than you'd be paying for newer type lenses of the same speed and range) this lens is a huge bargain.

Excellent lens! When I bought this lens for my Sony Alpha 290 DSLR, it was the first time I bought something used from Ebay, so I was somewhat skeptical about the quality of the product (for the price). However, this lens is performing just as new. The zoom mechanism is not very smooth, but has a solid feel to it. The focus mechanism works perfectly, with the infinity position at one extreme of the turning motion. The build quality of the lens, in my opinion, is better than the stock 18-55mm lens that was included with my Alpha 290 DSLR. Picture quality is just as good, with no visible artefacts seen. I plan on using this lens for ultra wide astrophotography, so I have taken several long exposure shots using it and have not seen noticeable chromatic aberration. All in all, I think it is a very good entry level lens.
