Great optics, good focus The reviews say it is supposed to resolve 50 lines and Sony purported super fast auto focus - I'll say the optics are true but the focus is not. In terms of resolution power, the reason I wanted something so psycho sharp was because I bought one of the monochrome retrofit Sony cameras and pixel level resolution is very noticeable for most lenses. This holds its own even without a reducer - that's great! My only need is that I specifically bought the Sony because I figured Sony body and Sony lens would be the fastest, but honestly it's faster but not incredibly faster than my Canon lenses attached with a megabones adapter, and no where as fast as the original Sony/Zeiss 55mm 1.8. So, if you want just about the best portrait length 85mm out there, sure, I can't find anything with sharper optics nor focus. But just wishing we humans had faster focus.Read full review

Great lens with some flaws. This lens has great optical quality but made out of plastic which is easily scratched. Also do not be alarmed but it has a very audible AF sound which I initially thought was broken. Tested a couple of copies and they all sound the same. Overall pretty happy but it is very expensive considering the build quality.

Superb image quality. The 85 GM is a perfect companion to Sony's high megapixel cameras. The sharpness is wonderful at the points where needed. Out of focus is perfect. Check do mark rating on A7RIV and photozone.de for their review.
