Sigma SA 50mm f/2.8 EX Macro This is a phenomenal lens for Scenics ,flower and insect photography. Its sharpness and clarity are reminiscent of the Zeiss Planar Makros ,yet incorporating all the newer technologies that Zeiss and Leitz lenses lack, such as autofocus and ,particularly relevant for insect photography, Auto Exposure , the one difficult part of Macro Photography. This lens has an extended focus range ,controlled by a switch in the barrel, that allows it to reach Life Size reproduction ratios (1:1),right out of the box, without the need for bellows ,extension tubes or closeup lenses. It can also be utilized on manual focus mode if so desired. The EX Series, known as the professional Sigma series,is a Full Frame lens that when coupled to a Digital Sigma camera will only utilize the center of the image field where the lens aberrations are corrected , as opposed to the DC model that will not cover a full 35 frame and will by force use the lens to its edges ,where residual aberrations always remain. Superb Lens! Suprer Razor Sharp! Cheap Cost! As with the Pentax and Sigma mounts, this lens does NOT disappoint on the EOS mount either! Simply amazing! This lens is just stunning all around! Everything about this lens is a pleasure to use and shoot! Focal range is a bit short for those skittish insects of course, but the lens will and does work excellent with the Sigma 2x DG APO TeleConverter attached to it making it a 100mm f/5.6 Macro lens, even wide open! High performance from portraits all the way to 1:1; really excellent. This is an excellent macro lens. Performs very well right down to 1:1, better than most macro lenses of this vintage and equal to very good current macro lenses.
