Sony AF Reflex 500mm f/8

sal500f80 This is a unique lens in the photo world. I know of no other mirror (reflex) lens that is auto focus. The amazing part is that Minolta (bought by Sony) first made this lens - don't know - 15, 20 years ago. Sony picked it up in the Mino purchase, but has since discontinued the lens. As for optics - simply outstanding. Yes, yes, yes, you will have the infamous "donuts" in the bokeh ----- if the background is close and/or has bright spots. If the background is relatively uniform (sky, neutral trees), this will not be a problem. I have captured humming birds from 30 feet with this lens. Wings stopped! Again, yes, yes, you need a relatively high ISO (800+) and or a bright day. However, this lens weighs 1/10 of my Sigma 500mm f4.5. Gotta pay the piper somehow. Great long lens value This is a great lens for people on a budget. Uniquely Minolta because they made the only AF version of this style of lens. The Sony version just ups the game with coatings and whatever else. Great compact long range lens. Sharp, lightweight and easy to hold. I love mine.

Good lens It works as I expected. For not so bright days you'd better use a tripod. Good for nature pictures. Size is ok taking in account the focal distance.
