Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8

Zeiss Touit 12mm goodness! Update to my review Recently purchased used a Zeiss Touit 12mm f2.8 lens for my Sony A6500. The other lens I am using is the Sigma 18-35 Sony A mount lens with LAEA3 adapter, and a Zeiss 55MM 1.8. I needed a wide angel lens for certain shots that the Sigma could not do even at 18MM as the crop factor makes it into 27MM. With the crop factor of 1.5, the Zeiss 12mm goes from 12MM to 18MM which is wide enough for all my wide shots. Very little distortion as compared to other lenses that are in the range of this lens with very little CA that can be fixed in post production. Image quality is outstanding with that Zeiss 3D type pop, Color is also up to the Zeiss standard which is awesome. For video, I recommend using a separate recorder for sound as the lens is a bit of noise. This lens does hunt at times but I found it not to be much of a problem most of the time when used for video. The build quality is typical Zeiss. Feels well built although some do not like the smooth rubber focus ring. The lens shade is pretty well built although it seems light compared to other Zeiss lenses. To sum it up, The Zeiss Touit 12mm f2.8 is an excellent lens that has excellent image quality and color. Update 9/10/17.......I recently sent in my 12MM 2.8 Touit to Zeiss to have the firmware updated. The newest firmware is version 2. My lens had version 1. I recently got it back and I can report that this lens is now excellent lens for video. It does not hunt like it did before and it has quieted down quite a bit. Zeiss does not charge to do the update as you must send your lens to them to have it done. This lens is now a fantastic lens that is perfect for not only stills but also video if you are in need of wide angle shots.

Love this Wide Angle autofocus lens on my Sony A6500 This lens is light weight, very fast autofocus, and produces great images on an APS-C camera like the Sony A6500. Equivalent focal length 18mm and rectilinear, not noticeable distortion at the edges.

Best of the Best I have not compared, but the Sony 10-18mm may be a better VALUE since it zooms in/out to the equivalent of a 15-27mm on Full Frame reference vs. only 18mm for this when using crop sensor it was made for. However, as a single focal length is Superb for those who want the ultimate sharpness on a wide angle optic. I use mine on an A7R III (auto APS-C crop from FF) and A6000 APS-C. Best of the best.
